Of course the horse from Panama won the Prince of Wales, why not? Figures. How is that for handicapping logic? In a race that never seems to make sense, just pick the strangest potential winner. Real shame I didn't bet it because the moment I heard about this horse I've been thinking he'd win this race,lol... As for how good he is, who knows, I have no clue, lol.

Yeah, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't for the POW. I decided early on that I wasn't going to bet the race, but my gut told me to go with Golden Moka. Mobil Unit was also intriguing, because Keogh had been going on all week that he never really thought the horse liked Polytrack and he expected him to run better on dirt. Naturally they were 2 of the longest shots on the board.

Oh well. *LOL*

It is a nice story about Rene Douglas owning the horse too. This is a good result for them.

Oh well about sums it up,lol.

Hard to know what to make of Gold Moka because its difficult to really know what he beat. Its entirely possible that the Plate horses all bounced coming out of a difficult race on a quirky track run during extreme heat. Also, its impossible to know whether any of the big contenders are simply Polytrack horses. Tough to say. All we know for sure is that the Plate form didn't hold with Golden Moka and Mobil Unit finishing as well as they did.

Then again, I really don't have a high opinion of the American 3 yr old colts/geldings so I wouldn't put a big American wins past a horse like Golden Moka.

I still think the Plate was an extremely skewed race, so it's hard to gage any form from that race whatsoever. I don't think Mike bounced. I just think that he has one effective running style and he lost because didn't get things his own way yesterday. Hotep had another bungled trip after he tangled with Captain Canuck at the start and had to take back. Perhaps yet another toss for him, but any way you evaluate him, he's been an underachiever and I'm really beginning to wonder if this horse can ever put it all together. I still think Sam-Son would have done better to run Giant's Tomb in this race, but I also understand them wanting to give him a rest since he ran in both the Plate Trial and the Plate. I heard they are saving him up for the Breeders. I'm not sure why they think he might be better on grass, but I guess that is why Frostad is the trainer and I'm not. Smiley

I'd like to see Golden Moka actually tested. He could be any kind, but who knows how he'll do in open company.

I wonder which, if any, of these horses will go forward to the Breeders.

Yeah, same here.  I knew it was going to be a wacky race because the horses with a lot of quality weren't going to be running on a surface that works for them.  For instance, Hotep is not a dirt horse, and Canuck is a turf horse.  I guess they're going to the Breeders' with him, and I just hope he hasn't been messed up by this experiment.  It's been pretty clear he was a turf horse for several months now.  I understand trying for the Plate, but the Prince of Wales was lunacy.  I had hoped after the Plate that they'd just head for the Breeders', but no such luck.  I think Josie is a very, very good trainer, so I can only assume that the impetus for taking these flyers came from the owners.
