I'm not surprised, but I'll miss seeing him. He's a character.

I'm not surprised either, but I'm happy he's coming home. I always felt he'd be a little lost in the shuffle down in Kentucky. He should get a much better, or at least bigger, book of mares up here. The one drawback is that Ontario now seems to have a surplus of sires, so it's anyone's guess how he'll fit in the mix. I expect breeders to be very receptive of him, though, at least for the first few years.

I'm sure it's the best thing for his career at this point. He probably should've started off in Canada. But I'm glad I got the chance to meet him---very cool horse.

Yeah, to be honest I questioned Kentucky for him as well, and the $10,000 initial stud fee. But I'm sure Schickedanz was hoping that he'd be like his sire. He really had to campaign to get Langfuhr to stand anywhere; initially he was standing in Australia. But once he got a decent book of mares he became successful at stud. Hopefully Wando will find his niche back home. He was a pretty versatile horse, winning at different distances on the dirt and the turf.

I think he should have started off there. He was well known and versitile in Canada. Hopefully they will support him. Which I think they will. He's a stunning individual.

He doesn't have the greatest conformation you'll see. But, as a homebred, he probably had no "work" done. So, at least you know what you're getting, unlike with some of these stallions who've had procedures of which potential breeders are unaware.

True, he's not what you would call "perfect". He does though have a very handsome face.

No, Wando never had the most perfect conformation, but what I always liked about him was the fact that he was really a very well muscled individual. And he's won stakes races from distances of 6f up to a mile and a half, so he's really very versatile.
My biggest concern about him being up here is that the Ontario stallion market is already pretty saturated and that could potentially limit the number of mares he gets. I'm really curious to see the report of mares bred this year to see how local breeders are reacting to the sudden surge of new, quality stallions here.

Doesn't his owner have enough mares to prop him up?

Yes, Schickendanz has always been really good about supporting his stallions, and it was mostly due to his efforts that Langfuhr got to where he is now. So I'm sure he'll do the same for Wando up here. That said, a lot of Schickendanz's top mares are pretty closely related to Wando. He really loves that Langfuhr/Woodman cross, almost to a fault... Wando must have about 4 or 5 full sisters by now. *LOL* But knowing Schickendanz, I'm sure he's been busy acquiring suitable mares for Wando.

Yeah, that actually sounds like something he would do. Perhaps then he won't have any qualms breeding any of Wando's many sisters back to Wando. *LOL*
