I just spent the afternoon with him and his lovely wife at Tampa Bay Downs. We had a ball. They came down to see the Fla Derby and watch the college basketball championships. They found me and hauled me off to the track with them. Didn't win any money but we had a good time.

I pointed them at several restaurants that they would enjoy. We have one of Leroy Selmon's Rib and Steak houses, a really good Italian dream of a joint named Bern's with 5 star service and recognition, a bunch of seafood places, various ethnic places, you name it. I was a cook, I can point you at the good ones.

El P, I remember eating at Bern's (I think it was called Bern's Steak House at the time) when I was in Tampa on business a number of years ago.  Excellent food and service, perhaps the best I can recall having had in the State of Florida.  Very pricey though. The sort of place  to go when you are on someone else's expense account.  The wine list was so impressive that they kept them chained to the tables.  As I said, that was some time ago, and things might have changed over the years.

A friend was a waiter there. They almost had an armed guard on the cellar. He played pool against me. He'd also wander into the bar we were playing at with sirloin tip that would dissolve in your mouth. It's actually gotten bigger. There's the original, and they added a smaller place next door which is still haute cuisine but lighter. More neauveau cuisine. You still drool as you drive into the parking lot.
